Horse TrainingFollow through

As we enter into the new year and new show season, here are some things to remember:

Every successful win starts with a plan and a focus but most of all follow thru. One of the important keys to a winning run is letting things develop and building your run one maneuver at a time. This is sometimes difficult if you do not have a coach to keep the show focus for you. If you are a once a week rider and want to show , your program and plan for showing will differ from the 4 to 6 times a week rider. This is very important in setting a program and expectations for a show season. First determine your commitment and let it be known to your trainer so everyone is on the same page. Here are a few variables to consider.
1.) Horses level of training or experience in the show pen.

2.) Riders level of experience of riding and/or showing.

3.) What is the riders competition level?

4.) Size of shows to enter.

5.) Does the horse need additional training, or tune up periodically?

6.) How many days of instruction is needed per week?

7.) Do you want help at the shows, or just during private lessons?

8.) Do I know how to execute each maneuver?

9.) Have I learned how to show the reining horse?

10.) Have I learned how to win?

11.) Do I understand the costs?
