horse trainingRider must ride to the stop. Do not stop in your mind anytime before the stop. Follow through with the forward momentum to the stop

Being timed to the horse is a large factor to the stop. Rhythm and timing are a must.
How to get timed to your horse?
1. Your horse must allow you to softly put both legs around his rib cage, not squeezing-- but contact, and not building speed yet...

2. You must keep your shoulders back and your head up.

3. Now you gradually build speed (assuming you are straight) slowly clucking with every other stride, then every stride. Then in place of the next cluck you say "Whoa". Take your legs off at the same time and then.............. check on Horse Training Tip 3 for what to do next!
